RV Luts
This package allows to automatically apply the OCIO-config configured in ShotGrid for the active project. To set a project, please visit the menu LUTs > project > [YOUR PROJECT]. Once a project was selected it will be remembered in the next session for this user.
The configuration should always choose the correct settings for the media type. Should it not, please reach out to [RE]DESIGN so we can address this in the configuration, as overriding the settings manually may not get the correct result as much is set "under the hood".
Should the OCIO config need to be turned off, choose Toggle OCIO (alt/option + c) from the Redesign/LUTs/OCIO Project Configurations menu.
Installation
You can install the LUTs tool with all of the other tools in the RV Tool Installer, or by itself by clicking only the LUTs app.
Launching
Once installed, you can launch by choosing "Play in RV" from a Version or Playlist in ShotGrid. As long as any per-shot customizations can be found, such as CCC files, it will automatically choose them per clip. You can mix MOVs and file sequences (like EXRs) in a single timeline. Note that if your configuration is pulling any per-shot data (like CDLs) from ShotGrid directly, RV must be launched from ShotGrid to find the data.
After starting RV, please go into the RV: Preferences: Packages pane and turn on the "OpenColorIO Basic Color Management" plugin.
Use
After launch, RV may require you to choose the specific OCIO configuration for your project. If this is the case, choose the name of the project with the desired configuration under Redesign: LUTs: OCIO Project Configurations: My Project.
The tool will auto-select the correct OCIO settings based on the configuration per clip. Should a clip fail to load the correct color, it is possible that the clip either does not have access to an expected CDL/CCC, the LUT is missing, or the configuration has not been set up properly for a particular clip. Should this be the case, please reach out to [RE]DESIGN and we will assist.
The OCIO menu is intentionally limited, so will not contain the usual range of options for a facility OCIO setup. Should you wish to use a different OCIO configuration alongside this one, please let [RE]DESIGN know and we can assist with this.
Example
This is a test movie with 3 clips inside (Prores, Arri Raw, EXR). These ones are fake clips and most likely don’t match the production material.
For the prores clip it sets the following settings:
On the Arri Raw these ones:
And for the exr this one:
For all it automatically selects the default configured display:
Additional Information
The OCIO configuration is zipped and uploaded to a custom OCIO project entity in ShotGrid:
Once this is there the LUTs-rv plugin will take care of downloading it locally (to ~/.ocio_config_cache)
The Advanced/Settings menu contains fields which should not need to be modified by the user:
